am i just an old jaded former otaku?

I was in J-town today, and passed by Kinokuniya. In their window, they were selling English Ranma 1/2 vol 31. now these things are always packaged. I was sad and felt really old because, the selling point they put on the Ranma manga was "by the same artist who brought you Inu Yasha." I'm sad because Ranma is like.. 12 years older than Inu Yasha.. but the little kiddies don'tknow what ranma is..
I am old.

In other J-town sightings, i saw this cute couple walk by with a cute fluffy kitten in a towel browsing j-town.

In other other sighting, i saw what i thought was a cute fluffy dog wearing a t-shirt walking down the street with owner. It turned to only be fluffy up front. It's backside was shaved, and as i got closer... it turned around adn pooped. what is it with aminals and their showing the backsides and pooping while I am looking. *mental note- i'm wonder how many times that is gonna happen when i go to SD Zoo in Oct. =P

ranma was probably the first anime i saw (i don't count Doremon a.k.a. Ding-Dong or crayon shinchan cause there wasn't really a plot XD) i think that was back in 1994...possibly 1993. HAH...i'm oldschool ;)

I had a similar epiphany at the Whose Line is it Anime? event at AX (the one we ruined), when the actors kept doing the Kodachi Laugh™ and some otaku guy behind me turned to his friend and went, loudly, "It's Naga from Slayers!" It was then that I realized that only Val, Andy, Rin, Bernie and I knew what Ranma was...

you ruined Whose Line? I hope it was as fun as our foray into the Yaoi and Hentai room at Fanime! that was fun =)

I thought that laugh was your standard "evil ojousama" laugh? Of course, for us old Ranma fans, we associate that with Kodachi the most.

I can't believe I'm still collecting Ranma. Viz has been damn slow with this series. God, I've been collecting it since junior high school!! That was the manga that got me hooked on manga. Gawd I feel old. XP

One of my cousins once referred to the series as "Ranma One and a Half". I think that was just an accident though. :)

Is Ranma still even popular among anime fans? I haven't followed fandom closely enough to know for sure, but it seems like it's not as prominent as it was back in the day.
